Swapping to plastic-free dish soap – everything you need to know!
I’ve been on a mission to live a greener life for a while now, and plastic-free dish soap is one of the swaps I’m happiest about!
Every time I finished a bottle of supermarket washing up liquid, I felt a pang of guilt at the amount of plastic I was getting through. It didn’t take much research to find out about plastic-free dish soap bars, so I finished off my supermarket washing up liquid, and made the switch!
I opted for a lemon scented bar of dish soap, made by Ecoliving, which has subsequently become one of my favourite brands for green living. I saw a few reviews that said the bars were difficult to lather, but I decided to test it out and see for myself.
On arrival, the paper packaging told me about these features:
- Vegan
- Made from 100% natural ingredients
- ECOCERT approved organic ingredients
- Zero waste and plastic free
- Palm oil free
- Chunky 155g bar should last several months
- Biodegradable
In addition, the lemon bar I chose smells absolutely fantastic!
On my first try with the new dish soap bar, I was very mindful that other people had said it didn’t lather very well. I got my dish brush, wet it, wet the bar, and scrubbed! Yes, it took a little while (maybe 30 seconds of scrubbing to create a nice foam) but it really wasn’t too much of a bother! I ended up getting lots of foamy bubbles to clean my dishes with, and I was very happy with the end result.
On reflection, I’m not sure why it took me so long to make this swap, because it really is an easy one. I’d urge anyone to give this a go and see what they think!
